I lived in Mt. Lebanon from 1930 until 1939. I went to the Julia Ward Howe School when it had just 6 rooms. The library was on the second floor of the municipal building. My Mom was in charge of taking care of people's clothing while they went swimming in the municipal pool. I have written a book about growing up in Mt. Lebanon. Please contsct me if you would like to hear about some of my memories. Thank you, irmarie

I am trying to research my family history. I am in the US Navy in Hawaii. I was last in P.a in 2005 for my fathers funeral (Robert L Wilkinson Jr.). He was burried at the Mt. Lebanon Cemetery. I belive his father is burried there as well, Robert L Wilkinson Sr., who died in the early 1950's. Robert Sr. was married to Mildred Powers. He also had at least one brother that owns the Wilkinson Nursery. If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it. Specifically looking for Parents information for Robert Sr. if recoverable from his tombstone or if anyone knew of him or the family. They lived in and around the Youngwood area.

Hi. Thank you very much for having such an interesting site about old Mount Lebanon. When I clicked on your Library image, I saw the new library, that was built where an old abandoned house was situated, on Castle Shannon Blvd., across from Mellon Junior High School (I believe). In the 1950s, the original library was on the second floor of the Township building downtown, on Washington Road.

My family moved to Mount Lebanon in early 1950, when I was in second grade. We had a modest house on Hazel Drive, and I walked to Washington Elementary School. I continued school at Mellon Junior High for two years, after which, in 9th grade, we all went to the High School. After graduating in June, 1960, I studied physics Carnegie Tech for two years, studied metallurgy at University of Michigan for two and a half years and a year of grad work in extractive metallurgy out at Stanford U. in California.
If you care to check out my personal links part of www.bottlebrushpress.com, I have some Mount Lebanon stories listed in the Memory Lane section.

Cheers,

James.

P. S. I wonder if that small mansion with the large mowed front yard lawn is still standing at the corner of Castle Shannon Blvd. and Washington Road? In my intense bird-watching days back in 10th grade, I saw an albino Robin there.
